Top 5 Social Media Resources for 2009

As we’ve developed our strategy and implementation skills with social media to help guide our clients (and ourselves) in 2009, there is a small library of resources that I’ve tapped into time and time again for nuggets of information for presentations, planning, and tactical roll-out.

A big thank you to those who have helped me become a better social media practitioner in 2009:

  1. Develop a Social Media Strategy in 7 Easy Steps. A Twitter ID is not a social media strategy. Ask the why before you get to the how. So many great lessons can be found in this post on Jason Baer’s blog.
  2. 33 Reasons to Use Twitter.  While Twitter seems to be the social media tool du jour, making it relative to businesses continues to be paramount. If you’re looking for a value to the service, look no further than this article.
  3. Digital News Release Tactics. Navigating the dos and don’ts of a new media release (AKA: Web 2.0 release or digital press release) has been covered extensively. However, PWR New Media has a great post including tips on integrating inbound and outbound tactics to increase pick-up for these releases.
  4. Phoenix Media on Twitter.  A Twitter virgin at the beginning of 2009, Valley PR Blog gave me a jump start on who to follow here in the Valley. I stay informed by continuing to check this list and wish that the industries I follow nationally had a resource as neat and tidy as this one!
  5. 100 Ways to Measure Social Media. ROI is more important than ever and social media provides us with so many tools to do so.  Find 100 ways to tie objectives to evaluation here.

  1. Thanks so much for including me in the Top 5 list. I’m honored. Some great resources there, including a couple I hadn’t seen, so I appreciate the heads up.
